Tovah Silver, stuck in a mammograph (you read that right), accidentally outs her magic while fending off a golem. Fortunately, the only person with the knowledge to understand the situation is a man she hates, whom she cannot trust, and who has the gall to be extremely good-looking. To top it all off, she needs his help to find the source of the threat.

Ms. Wilde paints a vivid world and stocks it with fantastic characters: Empress is a delight! Even the plants have personality. The dialogue was witty, the relationships complex, and the style engaging. The Mad Queens make midlife look fun.

Golem For Broke ticks all the boxes for lovers of urban fantasy, matching the voice and humor readers expect from Deborah Wilde. I would have liked a few more breadcrumbs to the mystery, but this was a delightful read; I can’t wait for more.
