T.I.E. (Entry 16): Hindsight

Sometimes you plan a thing and feel very proud of yourself. The big day comes, you’re doing the thing… and it’s not going as planned. Then you look back at the series of decisions that got you here and think: “Oh.”

I planned two things — a paid promo and a Goodreads Giveaway.

The Giveaway is going marvelously. I’m giving away 100 free ebooks! My minimum goal was 100 entries, and the first time I checked online, I already had 244. It’s over 300 and climbing now.

The paid promo, however… hasn’t produced any visible results.

I asked myself: if readers pay attention to email alerts and newsletters, might they not also pay attention to Goodreads? Maybe there’s some overlap. In hindsight, it does seem a little silly to discount a book while giving it away for free.

Lesson learned: do not run paid promos alongside giveaways.
