Poetry on My Mind:

By Thio Isobel Moss

Have you ever woken up, gotten on social media, and everything in your feed is perfect for you? It’s really a mood - open, curious, happy. I have been fortunate enough to have found colleagues - the friends of friends and lucky chances on social media. Interacting with these new peers inspired my mood today. It’s been a long time since I wrote any poetry (I thought the reflex was gone), but here we are:

A Well-Designed Algorithm

I awoke, clothed in a velvet darkness,

Enveloped by a familiar room,

With a slow, soft curiosity,

A teasing awareness-

When light flickered around the window.

I parted the drapes

And the wealth of seeking flooded my sight,

A crisp, cold river;

The music of hope set my feet dancing,

The song of being;

Every face a friend; new, yet old.

Ambrosia!

I feasted as one who has starved,

Like a wolf.

Ideas, art, laughter—every word a door, a hall, a path

Through a wondrous maze

Where ignorance, the mason of limitations,

Is soon, and inevitably, overcome

And my mind, at last, released.
